Happiness It’s within you !!
What does every human being strive for ?
If I were to ask this question to a group of professionals as to what their ultimate goal in life was, I?€™d get varied answers.
Some of the probable answers would be :
To own a Mercedes S-class!
To acquire the position of CEO in my present company!
To set up a large business in the software industry!
To buy a sprawling mansion in some part of the world!
And so on?€?..
My next question : Why they are striving for it ?
These things can be a means to an end but not an end in itself. So , what is the ultimate end that we all seem to be striving for.
Well, the answer is fairly simple : HAPPINESS !!
But can these material acquisitions bring happiness to one?€™s life?
We have to be sure that the path that we take to Happiness, actually leads us there.
Happiness is forever elusive when we try to find happiness in the material aspects of life like a good career, lots of money, a big car, a sprawling mansion etc.
Hey! But these are just means to an end.
The ultimate goal is happiness, peace, tranquility.
Isn?€™t it true that after we have achieved the material targets that we had set out to achieve, we are still looking for more and more. This indicates that either our target setting was not correct or we just have no idea what will give us the supreme contentment that we seem to be running after.
So, what do we do ?
The answer is that in this blind race for material acquisitions, we forget to enjoy the little moments of joy in our lives.
Happiness is not a distant dream, it is right there , right within, with us, all the time. We just have to have the time to feel it, enjoy it, experience it .
Happiness is ?€??€??€??€?
Sharing: It wont harm your career to take out time from your busy schedule and share a laugh with friends. Share their joys and sorrows.
Shedding a tear of happiness: Don?€™t check your tears. Let the emotions flow freely. Lighten the burden and feel good.
Putting a smile on someone?€™s face: Make someone feel good. The biggest happiness lies in giving without any expectations.
Introspect: Stop Running, take a moment out and introspect.. Look Within you.?€?you will find all the happiness that you ever craved for?€?
Smile: Don?€™t look for a reason to smile . Just Smile !!
Expressing Joy: Scream out a ?€œYIPEEE?€, when there?€™s some good news from a loved one.
Getting rid of inhibitions : Try getting drenched in the first rains and dance like a fool,
Remember some old very hilarious incident and laugh out loud in a public place to the astonishment of all present.
Giving: Give all the money in your wallet to a beggar and see the astonished look on his face.
Just go crazy for a while?€?. you?€™ll find that all the stress that you had been complaining of, is no longer there.
Gone with a whoosh!!!
The reason behind this sudden disappearance of all kinds of tension from your life is that you have tried to listen to your soul.
The soul craves for freedom.. Freedom from pretense, from misplaced morals, from living somebody else?€™s dreams and ambitions.
It?€™s time to free the soul?€??€?
unfetter yourself
Smile ?€??€?laugh?€?..
Feel one with the Universe !!!!!
Do things which your , over-the ?€“years conditioned mind , will term as stupid, childish ( isn?€™t child the face of God ?€“ all the happiness and love, there ever is !) and morally wrong ( who will decide the morals.. ??) .
I remember once my husband and I were going through a very stressful period of our lives. With both having busy work schedules and two little kids to take care of and no proper support system to take care of the kids as we had recently moved to a new city, we used to be pretty stressed up.
I remember a day, ?€?.an unusually busy day, ?€? and the moment , I stepped into the office, I found myself surrounded by problems, some urgent meetings lined up and a lot of problems without any answer, gaping at me.
I was cursing under my breath?€?
?€œWhy can?€™t I have a moment of peace in my life ??€.
I was still struggling to get a hold of myself that my cell started ringing. I was in the midst of a seemingly important discussion ?€“ a discussion where problems and more problems kept surfacing and not one solution !!
I was visibly irritated and was going to reject the call when I suddenly saw that it was from my husband. It was still very early in the day and the first thought that came to my mind was
?€œ Oh God !! Something terrible must have happened, otherwise why would he call ? ?€œ
And I answered the cell with a worried look on my face.
He just said a ?€œ Hello ?€œ and the very next thing that he said , completely threw me off-balance.
He said ?€œ I just called to tell you that I love you darling and I?€™m missing you a lot. Can I come over and pick you up from office? Let?€™s go for a drive ?€œ.
For a moment , I was confused and especially because, everyone in the meeting was looking at me and dreading that I?€™d announce some bad news. I quickly walked out of the meeting room, without giving anyone a hint about what had happened.
I found it strange for him to take time out of his busy schedule and call me and tell me this. But strangely enough, despite such a hectic schedule for the day, I found myself saying
?€œYes, let?€™s do?€.
And then , I fogot everything?€?office?€?deadlines?€?.meetings ?€?
as if , suddenly some unknown force had pulled me , in one quick stroke, out of the usual humdrum and placed me in a region of tranquility .
I found myself smiling?€??€?.., floating in the air?€?..
I excused myself from the office on some false pretext and we went for a drive?€?a sumptuous lunch, followed by a movie. Something , we had not done in ages?€??€??€??€?..
had forgotten to feel for each other,?€??€?.. were so caught up in the complexities of family life, personal and professional responsibilities that we had lost touch with the lighter side of life. We had forgotten to love each other and our selves.
I think a person has to love himself/herself, in other words, he/she has to be selfish. Now, it doesn?€™t mean that he has to be mean to others. No, that?€™s not correct.
Loving oneself means ?€??€??€??€?doing things that we, as human beings love to do, ?€??€?..catering to our soul?€™s desires.
But we will have to learn to distinguish between the soul?€™s desires and the ones that we have imposed on ourselves under the influence of various external factors like peer pressure , expectations of the parents, competitiveness, social standards etc.
Happiness is a magnet that draws all good things to itself. All we need to do is to be happy and that will automatically draw all the good things to us. But, we don?€™t understand it and instead choose to run after all the material things that we believe will lead to happiness and in the process run away from happiness.
It?€™s rightly said
?€œ You don?€™t stop laughing when you grow old. You grow old when you stop laughing ?€œ.
So, let?€™s not treat life as a burden but a precious gift and learn to find moments of happiness, strewn all along the way.
