Famous Movie Quotes from Romantic Movies

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

From Casablanca:

Ilsa: I wasn’t sure you were the same. Let’s see, the last time we met…
Rick: Was La Belle Aurore.
Ilsa: How nice, you remembered. But of course, that was the day the Germans marched into Paris.
Rick: Not an easy day to forget.
Ilsa: No.
Rick: I remember every detail. The Germans wore gray, you wore blue.

From Its a wonderful Life

Hey look, mister - we serve hard drinks in here for men who want to get drunk fast, and we don’t need any characters around to give the joint “atmosphere”. Is that clear, or do I have to slip you my left for a convincer?

From Metropolis

“We shall build a tower that will reach to the stars!” Having conceived Babel, yet unable to build it themselves, they had thousands to build it for them. But those who toiled knew nothing of the dreams of those who planned. And the minds that planned the Tower of Babel cared nothing for the workers who built it. The hymns of praise of the few became the curses of the many - BABEL! BABEL! BABEL! - Between the mind that plans and the hands that build there must be a Mediator, and this must be the heart.

Forrest Gump: I’m not a smart man… but I know what love is.

From Mel Gibson’s Braveheart.

William Wallace: Oui. Parce que chaque jour j’ai pensé à toi.
[Yes. Because every single day I've thought about you]
Murron: [hesitates, impressed despite herself, then smiles] Do that standing on your head and I’ll be impressed.
William Wallace: Well, my kilt will fly up, but I’ll try.

From the Graduate, not exactly Romantic, but still :

Benjamin: Oh God. Oh, let me out.
Mrs. Robinson: Don’t be nervous.
Benjamin: Get away from that door.
Mrs. Robinson: I want to say something first.
Benjamin: Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Robinson: Benjamin, I want you to know that I’m available to you, and if you won’t sleep with me this time…
Benjamin: Oh, my Christ.
Mrs. Robinson: If you won’t sleep with me this time I want you to know that you can call me up anytime you want and we’ll make some kind of arrangement.
Benjamin: Oh…
Mrs. Robinson: Do you understand what I…
Benjamin: Let me out.
Mrs. Robinson: Benjamin, do you understand what I just said?
Benjamin: Yes! Yes. Let me out!
Mrs. Robinson: I find you very attractive.

From the Sound of Music:

Maria: I don’t understand.
Captain von Trapp: Well, we called off our engagement, you see, and…
Maria: Oh, I’m sorry.
Captain von Trapp: Yes. You are?
Maria: Mm-hmm. You did?
Captain von Trapp: Yes. Well, you can’t marry someone when you’re in love with someone else… can you?

Pirate Sayings and Quotes

pirate-saying.jpg

Today is september 19th, the International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD). ITLAPD is a parodic holiday invented in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers , of the United States, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate.Ahoy Mate! The date was selected because it was the birthday of Summers’s ex-wife and consequently would be easy for him to remember.

I grew up reading about John Long Silver, and sang Fifteen Men on the dead men’s chest and a bottle of rum. Jack Sparrow again rekindled my old love affair with Pirates, and here on The International talk like a Pirate Day, lets have some Pirate Sayings!

“Bring me one noggin of rum, now, won’t you, matey.”

“Dead men don’t bite”

“Fifteen men on the dead man’s chest — Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!”

“The sea has never been friendly to man. At most it has been the accomplice of human restlessness.”

“Excuse me, madam, would you please be so kind as to bring me a spot of rum? I would like to have a drink.”

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.”

“Merchant and pirate were for a long period one and the same person. Even today mercantile morality is really nothing but a refinement of piratical morality.”

“Where there is a sea there are pirates”

“Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.”

“Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates”

“It is when pirates count their booty that they become mere thieves.”

“It’s not everyday you get to do a pirate movie, you might as well go for it. ”

Achievement Quotes and Sayings

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Quite a number of us want some achievement in life. There are a many who don’t, and they are content with who they are, what they are. Are those who wants to achieve something better? Are those who are content better? I am not here to start a debate on that.

But for all those who value achievements in life, we have some great Achievement Quotes here.

“You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.”~ Albert Einstein

“You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.” ~Woodrow Wilson

“The more you express gratitude for what you have the more you will have to express gratitude for.” ~Zig Ziglar

“Winners compare their achievements with their goals, while losers compare their achievements with those of other people”~ Nido Qubein

“The man who does things makes many mistakes, but he never makes the biggest mistake of all - doing nothing.” ~Benjamin Franklin

“Failures are finger posts on the road to achievement.” ~ Charles F. Kettering

“The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.” ~Maureen Dowd

“Achievement seems to be connected with action. Successful men and women keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.” ~Conrad Hilton

“I feel that the greatest reward for doing is the opportunity to do more.” ~ Jonas Salk

Some Random Famous Love Quotes from the web!

famous-love.jpg

Love the heart that hurts you, but never hurt the heart that loves you.

There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved.
If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it was, and always will be yours. If it never returns, it was never yours to begin with.
True love never lives happily ever after - true love has no ending.

You know you are in love when you see the world in her eyes, and her eyes everywhere in the world.

When you love someone, all your saved-up wishes start coming out.

And Rabindranath Tagore couldn’t have put in a better way than to say:

I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times, in life after life, in age after age forever.

Famous Divorce Quotes by Zsa Zsa Gabor

Friday, January 12th, 2007

zsa-zsa-gabor1.jpgZsa Zsa gabor was more famous for her witty remarks than her acting. She also had some memorable affairs:
From wikipedia:

In the late 1950s, Zsa Zsa had dinner with Frank Sinatra at LaRue’s on the Sunset Strip and spent only one romantic evening with him.

Gabor also had a relationship with Porfirio Rubirosa, a noted Dominican international playboy and sometime diplomat. She refused to leave George Sanders to marry Rubirosa, whereupon he married Barbara Hutton (for seventy-three days) and then renewed his relationship with Zsa Zsa. Zsa Zsa claims that Rubirosa proposed to her every time he could, and would change the subject when she refused. She just wouldn’t budge. They had a four-year relationship and were at one time engaged. Technically, Zsa Zsa broke the engagement when “Rubi” claimed he would break the engagement if she took a part in the movie Death of a Scoundrel which starred her ex-husband George Sanders.

She used to jump in and out of relationships, with her Wit and the Husband’s wealth intact:

Some of her quotes are:

“Getting divorced just because you don’t love a man is almost as silly as getting married just because you do.”

“I’m an excellent housekeeper. Every time I get a divorce, I keep the house.”

“I never hated a man enough to give him his diamonds back”

“How many husbands have I had? You mean apart from my own?”
