Annie Besant’s Maiden name was Annie Wood and she assumed her Husband’s title Besant, and that is how we remember her today. She was born to a middle class family and she lost her father in her childhood, and they had to face a lot of hardship. She was schooled at home. Her philosophy and her thinking was shaped at her Rev Husband’s when she helped her husband’s parishioners needy people. Her views on religion and strong opinions on birth control etc, led her to be driven away from her home by husband, and she later wrote many controversial books including on on birth control that led her to a prison term.
